Investing and Poker ??? Are They Related?

Every trader wants to be a professional. Every new trader must learn while there is no other strategy to become professional. And ultimately every trader begins to compare trading with other businesses to find some valuable ideas or techniques. Poker is usually in comparison to trading. Many people state that poker is similar to trading. I have experience of both fields. And I need to write my personal concerning this question.
Trading is a serious business. And to decide whether it is comparable to poker or not we should compare trading with poker. What is similar and what is different?
The first and the biggest similarity is always that in poker as well as in trading our income is not guaranteed. It is rather nearly impossible to find money for the beginner. Trading and poker are serious businesses. But many people consider that these businesses may give them quick money. Many people do not understand neither mechanisms nor rules of these areas. I know lots of people who started trading and generate losses inside a fortnight. I know lots of people who started playing poker and in addition lose all the money. They belief that they'd become rich in a couple of months. And such thoughts won't allow you to successful trader or player. In this regard poker and trading are very similar.
In trading and in poker we will need to deal with probabilities. But probabilities in poker could be counted. Though your estimation of poker probabilities will depend on insufficient information you are able to decide whether your movements are profitable or otherwise not. It is difficult but it's possible.
It is a bit more difficult to estimate probabilities in trading. You must understand trends and identify trends correctly; you need to movements of the market. And you do not have any numbers. You can not state that you might have for instance 56% to win take advantage current trade. Moreover each trader estimates the market differently. One trader can claim that current market is nice but other trader can point out that the same market in the same time is detrimental for him. And both might be right simply because they may have different trading strategies.
The biggest difference between trading and poker is if you play poker you are read more taking a definite amount at the table. You know that if you've got $1000 at the table you will not ever loose a lot more than this $1000. You can not shed more pounds money than you might have at the table. In trading you are able to lose your entire money during one trade. You need to trim your loses yourself. And it is the most difficult thing in trading for many individuals.
The greatest trader of most times Jesse Lauriston Livermore played poker. We can read relating to this fact in “Reminiscences of your Stock Operator” by Edwin Lefevre. Richard Smitten is the one other famous author who wrote about Livermore. Both authors wrote that Jesse Lauriston Livermore liked to play poker along with his friends. And he played poker well.
After reading this many traders know: “Hmmm… If Livermore played poker the greatest trader I should start playing too and will become the greatest trader as well”. But as I think there isn't any direct correlation relating to the trading and poker skills.
Poker and trading have similar laws. But it doesn't imply you are good trader after success in poker or good poker player after success in trading. Yes, these areas are similar however they require different skills. Anyway if you're a trader it is possible to always try to learn poker and select, is it similar to trading or otherwise. Your own opinion could be more valuable for you personally.
